What VIN margins are recommended when using the LT3061?

Designers should reserve margin above the worst-case dropout and expected transients—typically VOUT + worst-case dropout + 0.5 V to 1 V depending on transient severity. Always calculate Pd and confirm PCB thermal dissipation under worst-case load.

How do I measure LT3061 quiescent current accurately?

Use a low-current meter in series with VIN or a microammeter at the input with minimal shunt wiring. Disable switching loads, stabilize the output, and bandwidth-limit scope probes to avoid capturing transient spikes that inflate readings.

What output capacitor should I choose for a 3.3 V rail?

Choose a low-ESR ceramic in the 1–10 µF range as a baseline; add bulk capacitance or a small electrolytic if load transients are large. Ensure the ESR falls within the datasheet’s recommended window to maintain loop stability.

How does the LT3061 handle thermal protection?

The LT3061 includes internal thermal shutdown protection. If the junction temperature exceeds safety thresholds due to high power dissipation or short-circuits, the device will throttle or shut down until it cools to a safe operating temperature.
